Urban Active is now selling Urban Surf Boards.....
URBAN SURFING is a unique new way of boarding, more advanced than skateboarding but easier to do as it combines the technique of Snowboarding and Surfing.

The board has two sections connected by torsion bar that allows the rider to propel themselves along by twisting each side of the footboards. The Urban Surf board provides multiple exercise benefits including: a great aerobic exercise workout, as well as promoting stamina, flexibility, balance and coordination and of course4 it is great fun!

THE TECHNOLOGY - The board only has two wheels, which are both freely movable and rotate 360 degrees. It has two flexible foot panels made out of ABS synthetic rubber allowing for great stability and durability. Both front and rear are foot boards are connected and controlled by a spring-oriented torsion bar, which is the most essential part of the board's technology allowing it to be propelled by the rider.

HOW TO RIDE IT - There are two ways to ride the board, you can propel yourself by twisting your hips and shoulders back and forwards in a 'S' shape motion which moves the two foot plates side to side. This movement is similar to the technique used in Snowboarding and Surfing. The rider can also move their feet in opposite directions to make the board move forwards.
Urban Surf boards come in five different colours, black, red, orange, blue, purple and gold.
What you get - the Urban Surf board, carry case, carry strap, tool kit, CD and delivery within North Tyneside.

STREET GLIDERS
Suitable for 6 years plus.
Many customers have mentioned that they prefer Street Gliders to trainers with integrated wheels in the heels. WHY?
Although trainers with heels are the "in thing" at the moment, my concerns as a parent and a sports scientist are:
-
They are 50 - 80 pounds for a pair of childrens shoes
-
Childrens feet grow fast, so trainers will only last up to 6 months (if you get this much wear out of them think how over-sized they must have been in the first place!)
-
The natural walking action is a heel to toe combination. If children have long, interrupted periods of using integrated wheel-type trainers this may affect the way they walk as they are constantly walking/running on their toes or hyper-flexing at the ankle - if prolonged both of these are unnatural actions for growing bones and joints.
-
Due to the design, integrated wheel trainers often get clogged up with stones or mud and without persistent maintenance can rust easily.
The great things about Street Gliders are:
-
They are only 15 pounds per pair, so you can purchase five pairs of Street Gliders for the same price, with five times more fun
-
Street Gliders are fully adjustable, so they can grow with your child to fit any type of shoe, including adults shoes.
-
Street Gliders are fully portable and come with a small carrier bag, meaning they can be removed and stored easily and don't have to be worn all the time. The main benefit of this is that it will only ever be used for short periods and there is therefore no longer term effect on your child's gait (the way they walk).
-
Due to the design - with the wheels either side of the heels - they do not get clogged up with mud or stones.
-
Street Gliders light up, which are not only safer in the dark, but also look better. My daughter wore hers to the Fireworks Display and got lot of "cool" comments from the kids there.
